The band named itself after the 1964 French New Wave motion picture "Bande à part" directed by Jean-Luc Godard featuring Anna Karina, Sami Frey, Danièle Girard and Claude Brasseur. Former The Corvairs and Certain General member and relocated Texan Phil Gammage originally recorded his version with some members of Band of Outsiders for his 1991 solo album "Kneel to the rising sun" on New Rose Records.
